How to use SENA SMH5

GENERAL

Power ON / OFF

Press and hold the Jog dial and Phone Button at the same time for 1 sec to turn the device ON or OFF.

  • You will hear a voice prompt "Hello" when it is turned ON.
  • You will hear a voice prompt "Good Bye" when it is turned OFF.

Volume Adjustment
  1. Rotating the Jog Dial Clockwise: Volume Up.
  2. Rotating the Jog Dial Anti-Clockwise: Volume Down.

Mobile Phone Pairing
  1. Press and hold the Phone Button for 5 seconds, You hear voice prompt "Phone Pairing".
  2. Enable Bluetooth on the phone and select "SENA SMH5" in the list of Bluetooth devices. If your mobile phone asks for a pin, enter 0000."

Multipoint or Second Mobile Phone Pairing
  1. Press the Jog Dail for 5sec, you hear voice prompt " Intercom pairing"
  2. Within 2 sec tap the Phone Button. You hear a voice prompt, "Multipoint pairing".
  3. Enable Bluetooth on the second mobile phone, and select SMH5 in the list of Bluetooth devices. If your mobile phone ask for a pin, Enter "0000".

Mobile phone usage with SMH5
  1. To answer/end the call, tap the Phone Button or Jog Dial.
  2. To reject an incoming call, press and hold the Jog Dial for 2 sec

Battery Indications

When you turn ON device, the red LED flashes rapidly indicating the battery level.

  • 4 flashes = High, 70~100%
  • 3 flashes = Medium, 30~70%
  • 2 flashes = Low, 0~30%

Speed Dialing

Mobile phone needs to be connected with SMH5 first.

  1. Double tap the Phone Button, you will hear voice prompt "Speed Dial"
  2. Rotate Jog Dial , you will hear voice prompt "Last number redial",
  3. Tap the Phone Button and last number redialed automatically.
  4. Do the same thing for Speed dial 1, Speed dial 2 and Speed dial 3.
  5. To exit Speed dial, rotate Jog Dial until you hear voice prompt "Cancel" and
    then tap the Phone Button.

Note: Assign Speed dials before using this feature

INTERCOM

2-Way Intercom : A and B
  1. Press and hold the Jog Dial A and B for 5sec, you hear a voice prompt saying “Intercom pairing”.
  2. Tap the Jog Dial A or B, then A and B devices are paired and communicate each other.

2-Way Intercom with 3 other devices : A with B, C and D

SMH5 can pair with 3 other SMH5 devices and Switch between them to communicate.

  1. Do the intercom pairing between A and B, A and C and A and D in the sequence.
  2. Triple Tap Jog Dial: Communicates A and B
  3. Double Tap Jog Dial: Communicates A and C
  4. Single Tap Jog Dial: Communicates A and D

Note: SMH5 supports only 2-way intercom.

Universal Intercom

Switch ON SMH5 and Non-Sena Bluetooth headset

  1. Press and hold the Jog Dial for 8 sec, can hear a voice prompt "Universal intercom pairing".
  2. The non-Sena Bluetooth headset should be in phone pairing mode.
  3. SMH5 and Non-Sena Headset paired and communicate each other automatically

Devices: Sena SMH5 & any Non-Sena Intercom

Music Sharing : A and B
  1. Do intercom pairing between A and B.
  2. To start or terminate sharing music during intercom conversation between A and B, press and hold the Jog Dial for 1 sec until you hear double beep.

Note: To go back to Intercom conversation, please terminate music sharing

CONFIGURATION

Configuration Mode
  1. Press the Jog Dial for 12 seconds, you hear voice prompt "Configuration menu".
  2. By rotating the Jog Dial clockwise or anti-clockwise, you will hear each menu options.
  3. Enable Feature: Tap the Phone Button.
  4. Disable Feature: Tap the Jog Dial.
  5. To exit Configuration Menu, rotate the Jog Dial until you hear voice prompt "Exit Configuration" and Tap Phone Button

Assigning Speed Dial
  1. Enter into Configuration menu, select "Speed Dial" by rotating Jog Dial
  2. Tap the Phone Button, you hear voice “Speed dial one” and “Phone connected”.
  3. Rotate the Jog Dial to select one of three speed dial numbers and you hear a voice prompt saying “Speed dial (#)”.
  4. Call a phone number you want to assign and you will hear a voice prompt saying “Save speed dial (#)”. The phone number is automatically assigned to the selected speed dial number. Then the phone call will hang up before being connected.
  5. Rotate Jog dial and assign the Speed dial 2 and Speed dial 3
  6. To exit menu, rotate the Jog dial until you hear voice prompt "Cancel" and Tap Phone Button.

Note: Mobile phone must be paired before to use

VOX phone

Allows the user to answer a phone call hands free by saying "Hello" or any word loudly . By default is "Enabled"

  1. Enter into configuration menu, select "VOX phone" by rotating Jog dial
  2. Enable : Tap the Phone Button.
  3. Disable: Tap the Jog Dial.

Sidetone

Allows you to hear what you are speaking during Intercom conversation or phone call. By Default is "Disabled"

  1. Enter into configuration menu, select "Sidetone" by rotating Jog Dial.
  2. Enable : Tap the Phone Button.
  3. Disable: Tap the Jog Dial.

Delete all Pairings

Enter into configuration menu, select "Delete all pairings" by rotating Jog Dial and tap the Phone Button.

Factory Reset
  1. Press and hold the Phone Button for 12 sec, you hear a voice prompt "factory Reset".
  2. With in 5 sec, press the Jog Dial and you hear a voice prompt "Headset reset, good-bye"

Fault Reset
  1. While the device is ON, Insert a paper clip into the reset pin-hole that can be found on the backside of headset main unit.
  2. Press the reset button for a sec with light pressure then the device will be switched off, and a fault reset will occur.

Firmware Updates
  1. Download SENA Device Manager on your PC or Mac and then install it:
    https://www.sena.com/us-en/product/smh5/downloads
  2. Connect the SENA SMH5 device to your PC or Mac.
  3. Open SENA Device Manager and follow the steps to upgrade the firmware.

Note:

  1. The device should be powered "ON" before updating Firmware.
  2. Please use the SENA SMH5 USB data cable.
